Message from Stefan Kipp EMD of AlBihouth
Welcome to our November newsletter. Our big project milestone this month was the installation of the line 2 boiler steam drum. Weighing over 70 tons and at 20 meters in length, the steam drums are at the heart of the water steam cycle for the plant, and this installation is a significant step forwards in the process erection schedule. On the 24th and 25th of November myself and our owners engineer were present at the international Waste to Energy Conference held in Dubai, where we were both invited to give presentations about the Albihouth project. We were pleased to host conference delegates to our plant on the 26th November, where we were joined by Mark Siddorn, the Strategic Director for Tadweer.
The site experienced heavy fog on the mornings of the 19th and 20th November, the first such events of this winter season. Works were delayed until the fog had cleared by 10:00 on both mornings.
Project Summary to Date

Process erection in line 2 is progressing well this month with internal 1st and 2nd pass membrane walls installed and hydraulic system parts being fitted to the Ram Feeder. Installation of the secondary air preheater and ducting has started, and the lower rear membrane walls, which contain the access door into the combustion chamber, have been lifted into position. The boiler blowdown tank for line 2 has been installed and further works on the primary air system are underway. In line 1 further composite sections of cube 113 have been lifted into position. All 3 sections of the feed hopper in line 1 are now installed, and the first membrane walls are being prepared for installation. The turbine annex steel structure erection is progressing, and the first piping spools have been lifted into position here. The first section of the steam exhaust ducting has been lifted into position adjacent to the turbine table. Civil works around the site has been ongoing, with special focus on the administration building, where the main plant control room will be located. During November our EPC contractor has completed the structural erection of all five floors and the roof. Teams are now removing internal shuttering and formworks, and block work installation is underway closing the side walls of the building and forming the internal rooms and passageways. Erection of the main electrical shaft is also underway.

Plastering works on the inside walls of the compressor building are substantially completed and the warehouse steel structure erection is moving quickly. Casting of the protective walls around the auxiliary and generator step-up transformers has taken place this month. The ACC support structure is progressing well for street 2 and the underground works in this area have now been fully closed, to afford access for the turbine lift-in crane to move into position in December. Infill blockwork in the HV substation is largely completed, with works underway on the parapet wall.
HSE Update
We maintain a close working relationship with the management and team members of the Tadweer HSE directorate, providing regular site updates, HSE KPI information and hosting periodic site visits. On the 18th November we hosted a delegation from Tadweer’s general office staff, as part of an initiative within their health and safety directorate to improve awareness for safety in project environments. Following the site visit, team members shared their safety observations, which help to fulfill their individual KPIs. These will be incorporated into the site HSE tracker for action.
