The financial close inclusive of Notice-to-Proceed for the EPC of a groundbreaking project in Abu Dhabi was successfully obtained in June 2024. The Developer consortium led by Marubeni Corporation, including Kanadevia Inova (formerly Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI)) and the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (JOIN), has achieved financial close and provided the EPC consortium formed by Kanadevia Inova (formerly Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI)) and ALEC BUTEC with the Notice-to-Proceed of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) works of this project. Both consortia of companies will collaborate closely to design, build, and operate the world’s most advanced Waste to Energy (WtE) facility on behalf of Emirates Water & Electricity Company (EWEC) and Tadweer Group.
This plant, located near the Al-Dhafra landfill, will process 900,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.1 million tonnes each year. This remarkable facility’s output marks a significant step towards helping the UAE achieve net zero 2050 targets and plays a key role in promoting the UAE’s circular economy.
